How To Stay Hydrated
Here are 4 ways to help stay hydrated on a daily basis.
App Tracker
It is easy to simply forget to hydrate during the day because there is nothing to remind you of it. Install an app where you can track the amount of water you drink throughout the day and make it visible on the front page of your phone. Since most of us check our phones quite regularly, or at least several times a day, you will see the app and be reminded to drink your water.
To go a step further, I recommend making the app into a widget on your phone. That way you will easily notice the app, be able to see your progress and instantly tell how much more water you should drink that day. Seeing your progress will make the whole drinking-water process a lot more fun, making you want to drink more to visibly reach your daily goal.
I use the app Water Reminder. It is free and easy to use. There are of course other apps that would work perfectly fine as well.
How to turn an app into a widget on ios (iphone) Step by Step
1. Download the app you are going to use
2. Activate the operating state on your home screen (when you are able to move around the apps on your phone) by holding your finger on the screen for a moment.
3. Press the plus button on the upper left
4. Scroll down and press on your water reminder app. Choose one of the widget options you get presented with and press “Add Widget” down on the screen.
Water Bottle Instead of Glass
It is easier to drink more water when using a water bottle instead of a glass or a mug. Water bottles are easier to carry around, even if it is only around the house. You will drink more if your water is constantly in front of you, acting as a reminder and being easy to reach.
A water bottle makes it easier to track how much water you have drank that day. There is a variety of bottles to choose from that tell you how much water is left in it. However, it doesn’t need to be fancy. Any water bottle works.
Celtic Salt or Himalayan Sea Salt
For water to properly get absorbed into your body, you need to consume salt. This is because salt includes elements that your body needs in order to absorb water into your cells. Regular table salt that most people consume only includes sodium chloride, which is not enough and can even have a negative effect when used in high doses because it lacks other elements. Other types of salt such as Celtic salt and Himalayan Sea salt, include not only sodium chloride but several other elements that your body needs in order to properly absorb the water you drink.
The solution is to simply switch your regular table salt for Celtic or Himalayan Sea salt for daily use. If you are not able to switch salt altogether, another option is to put a small amount of Himalayan or Celtic Sea salt into your water. Have in mind that the taste of water can alter a little when mixed with salt, and you can in that case try adding other flavors to your water.
Change the flavor
If you do not like the taste of water or simply find it boring, flavor it with natural ingredients. One way to do that is to add citrusy fruits such as lemon, lime or orange. You can also use different berries such as raspberries, cherries, blueberries. Whatever ingredients you choose to enhance your water, make sure to mash them (if it’s berries) and squeeze the citrusy fruits for maximum flavor, instead of just putting them into the bottle of water.
